West Delaware Hawks (Manchester, IA) backers exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Independence Mustangs (Independence, IA), 7-5 in a league challenge.

The Hawks now own a 3-10 record. They take the field next when they host Vinton-Shellsburg for a non-league challenge on Wednesday, June 12. West Delaware will face a Vikings squad coming off a 5-4 non-league loss to Wapsie Valley (Fairbank, IA). The Vikings record now stands at 7-14.

With the loss, Independence falls to 9-12 on the campaign. The Mustangs travel to Clear Creek-Amana (Tiffin, IA) to face the Clippers in a non-league challenge on Wednesday, June 12. The Clippers enter the challenge with a record of 10-4. Clear Creek-Amana won 6-3 in their recent non-league challenge against Mt. Vernon (Mt. Vernon, IA)
