Florida High School Volleyball - Dunnellon edged by Crystal River

The Crystal River Pirates held off the visiting Dunnellon Tigers volleyball team by a score of 3-2 in Monday's non-league test.
The Pirates now have a 1-0 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Lecanto for a non-league test on Tuesday, August 22.
The Tigers (0-1) will now prepare for their test against North Marion (Citra, FL). The Colts enter the non-league test with a 0-1 record. In their last test, North Marion was nudged by Belleview (Belleview, FL), 2-0, in a non-league test.
Match Summary
DHS and CR played an exciting 5 set match with the games all going back and forth. Dunnellon lost the first set 19-25, then came back and won the next 27-25. Crystal river took the 3rd set 22-25, but we rallied back in the 4th set and won 25-20. In the 5th and deciding set the game went back and forth, but in the end Dunnellon came us just a little short, losing 13-15. It was a very exciting first match and the girls gave it their all during the match. The players of the match for the game were Sarah Velazaquez and Hailey Rodgers. Sarah came up clutch with her serves getting 4 aces and serving out the win in the crucial 4th set. Her serves got better and better as the pressure of the moment increased. Hailey stepped up from JV to fill in for a missing player and lead the team very well as setter two. She had 4 aces, 1 spike and 6 assists on the night.
