The Richard Montgomery Rockets, the reigning Maryland Class 4A volleyball champions, began their title defense in impressive fashion with a dominant performance against the Springbrook Blue Devils. In a match that showcased their skill and depth (Coach Gretchen Barber-Stunk used all 15 players), the Rockets secured a convincing 3-0 sweep, 25-10, 25-11, and 25-12.
The Rockets’ triumph was spearheaded by their leader senior opposite/setter Ema Djordjevic, who posted 12 kills with an impressive .650 hitting percentage, tallied 13 assists, and added 5 digs and 3 aces.
Rockets served amazing 27 aces as a team. The Mitchell sisters - Ellie (junior OH) and Katie (freshman OH/MB) both finished with 6 kills (Ellie adding 6 aces and 6 digs), while senior OH/MB Corinne Howard had 5 (5 aces, too), and senior setter/opposite Amy Ye 4.
