The Grafton Clippers topped the host New Kent Trojans volleyball team by a score of 3-0 in Thursday's league test.
The Clippers now have a 9-0 record. They put it on the line next when they host Hedgesville for a non-league test on Saturday, September 17. Grafton will confront a Eagles team coming off a 3-0 league win over Martinsburg (Martinsburg, WV). The Eagles record now stands at 12-1.
The Trojans (3-3) will now prepare for their test against Jamestown (Williamsburg, VA). The Eagles enter the Bay Rivers test with a 3-4 record. In their last test, Jamestown gained a win over Grove Christian School (Richmond, VA), 2-0, in a non-league test.
Match Summary
The New Kent Lady Trojan varsity stunned Grafton, ranked #3 in the state by Max Preps, by taking multiple leads in the first set of tonight's Bay Rivers District match. While Grafton eventually won in straight sets, New Kent finished within 4 points to Grafton 21-25 in the first set. In the second set, Grafton took an early lead at 1-5, then 3-10 and 4-13. New Kent closed to 7-14, but that was the last points the Lady Trojans would score in the set which ended with Grafton dominating New Kent 7-25. The third set saw ties at 1-1 and 3-3, before Grafton opened up a 3-8 lead. However, the Lady Trojans fought tenaciously, closing to 11-12 before Grafton managed another run which to14-21. New Kent managed 3 points to Grafton's 4, but the lead was too much to overcome, with Grafton winning 17-25.
