Basalt Longhorns (Basalt, CO) backers exited the stadium thrilled Saturday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Rifle Bears (Rifle, CO), 10-8 in a non-league challenge.

The Longhorns now own a 7-4 record. They take the field next when they travel to Meeker for a 3A Western Slope challenge on Monday, September 26. Basalt will battle a Cowboys squad coming off a 11-9 league win over Montezuma-Cortez (Cortez, CO). The Cowboys record now stands at 6-8.

With the loss, Rifle falls to 9-4 on the campaign. The Bears travel to Palisade (Palisade, CO) to battle the Bulldogs in a 4A Western Slope challenge on Tuesday, September 27. The Bulldogs enter the challenge with a record of 13-4. Palisade won 10-4 in their recent non-league challenge against Conifer (Conifer, CO)
