The Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars prevailed the host Valor Academy volleyball squad by a final score of 3-0 in Thursday's league game.

A determined Valor Academy team took their best shot at Lake Balboa in set 1. After an 8 all start, the Cougars led 18-14. Victory seemed a forgone conclusion but nobody told the Lions. Valor led 19-18, LBCP responded to 19 all then let it slip away 19-22 home team. The Cougars closed to 21-22. VA pushed them to the brink at 24-21 set point Lions. Big trouble at the 1st Place Sports Complex in Chatsworth. Frosh setter Edden Ghorghanian led the comeback behind Lina Matevosyan's steady serving for 5 straight points to grab a victory from the edge of defeat. Set 2 opened 7-3 Laketown then increased out of hand to 21-7. 4-7 sideout ball closed it out for the win. Set 3 opened up with the Cougars running in the open field 9-3 then 19-6 behind a hail of K's & aces. The Lions roared back at 11-19 but the deficit was insurmountable with Lake Balboa taking 6 of the next 8 points to win the match. The Cougars go to Panorama HS in a JV/Varsity doubleheader in the snake pit tomorrow.
