The Tabb Tigers held off the visiting New Kent Trojans volleyball team by a score of 3-2 in Thursday's league test.
The Tigers now have a 8-8 record. They put it on the line next when they host Smithfield for a Bay Rivers test on Tuesday, October 4. Tabb will confront a Packers team coming off a 3-0 league loss to Bruton (Williamsburg, VA). The Packers record now stands at 4-9.
With the loss, New Kent moves to 9-7 on the year. The Trojans host York (Yorktown, VA) to battle the Falcons in a Bay Rivers contest on Tuesday, October 4. The Falcons go into the contest with a record of 14-2. York won 3-0 in their recent league contest against Jamestown (Williamsburg, VA)
Match Summary
In a tough, see-saw match, the Tabb Tigers prevailed in the fourth and fifth sets to even their record against New Kent with a five-set match, 24-26, 25-20, 25-9, 23-25,12-15. While the Lady Trojans outscored Tabb 105-95, most of the point differential came in game three which New Kent won 25-9. With a 2-1 lead, New Kent looked like they had the match under control, but four hitting errors, four serving errors, and four passing/setting errors gave Tabb the points they needed to squeeze out the win 23-24. In the final match, New Kent again tallied four hitting errors, two service errors, and two receiving errors to give Tab eight of the 15 points they needed to win the match. New Kent plays York next who won in four earlier in the season.
