Pillow Academy Mustangs (Greenwood, MS) backers exited the stadium thrilled Tuesday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Starkville Academy Volunteers (Starkville, MS), 8-4 in a league challenge.

The Mustangs now own a 1-0 record. They take the field next when they host Starkville Academy for a MAIS 5A District 1 challenge on Thursday, September 14.

With the loss, Starkville Academy falls to 8-4 on the campaign. The Volunteers travel to Central Holmes Christian (Lexington, MS) to face the Trojans in a non-league challenge on Thursday, September 7. The Trojans enter the challenge with a record of 12-7. Central Holmes Christian lost 10-0 in their recent league challenge against Deer Creek (Arcola, MS)
