The New Kent Trojans volleyball team scored 3 points and limited the host Warhill Lions to 1 in the Trojans league victory on Tuesday.
The Trojans now have a 2-1 record. They put it on the line next when they host Tabb for a Bay Rivers game on Thursday, September 7. New Kent will meet a Tigers team coming off a 3-1 non-league win over Poquoson (Poquoson, VA). The Tigers record now stands at 2-1.
The Lions (0-3) will now prepare for their game against Bruton (Williamsburg, VA). The Panthers enter the Bay Rivers game with a 4-1 record. In their last game, Bruton dropped by Grafton (Yorktown, VA), 3-0, in a league game.
Match Summary
The Lady Trojans defeated Warhill 4-1 on the road. New Kent struggled with unforced errors in the first set accounting for 22 of Warhill's 25 points for the set. In set two, NK cleaned up their play, recording their best hitting of the night with 12 kills and only 4 errors to win 25-21. In set 3 Warhill took an early 8-1 lead with NK closing to within 3 at 10-13, then trading points while Warhill slowly pulled ahead to a 6-point lead at 13-19. An attacking error by the Lions brought up NK's Libero, Abby McLaughlin, who recorded 3 aces and caused Warhill to make 4 hitting and freeball errors to put NK ahead 21-19. NK's final 3 points came from 2 of Fallon Greenawalt 7 kills in that set and an ace from DS Hunter Harlow. Set 4 was close throughout with MB Evie Davenport contributing 4 kills and 3 aces with 2 coming on the last two points of the match. Other highlights were 11 kills and 10 digs by Lexi Powell, and 28 assists, 2 kills, and 4 aces by setter Mackenzie Loveland.
