Basketball Recap: Long Beach Poly's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak at Home

After flying high against Victory Christian Academy last Saturday, Long Beach Poly came back down to earth. The Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 45-44 to the Paramount Pirates.

Despite the loss, Long Beach Poly still got an impressive performance from Joy Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 boards. Anderson's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Nevaeh Lemons was another key player, putting up 12 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Long Beach Poly smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Long Beach Poly's defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-4. As for Paramount, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Long Beach Poly and Paramount should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Long Beach Poly (ranked 98th) will meet Woodrow Wilson (ranked 587th) at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Long Beach Poly is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season. Similarly, Paramount (ranked 95th) will meet Lynwood (ranked 215th) at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
