Basketball Recap: Clarion-Limestone Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Julianna Schwabenbauer and Hannah Beggs

If Clarion-Limestone was feeling good fresh off their 56-17 takedown of East Forest on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Clarion-Limestone Lions took a hard 65-51 fall against the Clearfield Bison on Saturday. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bison apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

Hannah Beggs and Julianna Schwabenbauer certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Beggs went 7-for-16 to rack up 21 points in addition to seven boards and three steals, while Schwabenbauer almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. That's the most rebounds Schwabenbauer has posted since back in December of 2024. Makayla Clinger also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Clarion-Limestone smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Clearfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sonny Diehl, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 13 boards. The game was Diehl's fifth in a row with at least 15 points. Eve Helsel was another key player, putting up 24 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals.

Clarion-Limestone's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Clearfield, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Clarion-Limestone has already played their next contest, a 46-45 victory against Clarion Area on the 10th. As for Clearfield, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 59-54 win against Tyrone on the 10th.
