Basketball Game Preview: Serra Catholic Eagles vs. Monessen Greyhounds

The Serra Catholic Eagles and the Monessen Greyhounds, after both having extra time off, will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Monessen took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Serra Catholic, who comes in off a win.

Serra Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped last Monday as they easily beat Mapletown 73-15. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Maples: they've now won seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Monessen played a tough contest last Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 59-21 loss at the hands of West Greene. While losing is never fun, the Greyhounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 488th, while the Pioneers are ranked 142nd).

Monessen's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Serra Catholic, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Serra Catholic strolled past Monessen in their previous meeting back in January of 2025 by a score of 61-45. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Greyhounds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
