Preview: Downey Vikings vs. St. Anthony Saints
After four games on the road, Downey is heading back home. They will take on the St. Anthony Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Saturday, Downey made easy work of Villa Park and carried off a 52-28 win.
Among those leading the charge was Amanda Velazquez, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 20 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Symantha Barnett, who scored 5 points along with 11 rebounds and 5 assists.
Meanwhile, St. Anthony entered their tilt with Moanalua with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. St. Anthony breezed by Moanalua on the road to the tune of 72-45.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Anthony to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kadence Lloyd, who scored 18 points along with 9 rebounds. The match was Lloyd's fourth in a row with at least ten points. MeLaiah Joseph was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with 3 steals.
Downey's victory bumped their season record to 6-3 while Villa Park's defeat dropped theirs to 4-4.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Downey and St. Anthony are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Downey hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 50.6 points per game. It's a different story for St. Anthony, though, as they've been averaging only 58.7 per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run up the score up higher Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
