High school football rankings: Southeast Polk headlines Iowa Preseason MaxPreps Top 25

Rams are 34-3 over the past three seasons with back-to-back state titles.

The 2023 high school football season in Iowa kicks off later this month and MaxPreps has your look at the state's top teams. Defending Class 5A state champion Southeast Polk (Pleasant Hill) owns the No. 1 spot in the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25.

Southeast Polk won its second straight state title in 2022, beating Valley (West Des Moines) 49-14 to end the season with a 12-1 record.

Back to lead the charge for the Rams will be senior quarterback Connor Moberly. The Iowa State commit threw for 2,009 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 70.7 percent of his attempts.

In addition to Southeast Polk, other defending state champions include Xavier (Cedar Rapids) in Class 4A, Harlan in Class 3A, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock (Rock Rapids) in Class 2A, Van Meter in Class 1A and Grundy Center in A.
