Basketball Recap: Patrick Henry Takes a Loss

Patrick Henry lost against Christian back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Patrick Henry Patriots were dealt a 63-26 loss at the hands of the Christian Patriots. Patrick Henry was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-14.

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ayla Collins, who posted eight points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sanaiya Langston, who scored four points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Patrick Henry smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Leah Speers was her usual excellent self, putting up 33 points and three steals for Christian. Speers has been hot for a while, having posted 17 or more points the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Maepon Johnson, who had 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals.

Patrick Henry's defeat dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, Patrick Henry and Christian will both be playing Point Loma the next time they take the court. Christian will head out to face Point Loma at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Patrick Henry will head out to face them at 5:45 p.m. on February 11th.
