Baseball Recap: Atkinson County Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

Atkinson County let Echols County stack four runs on them in the fourth inning on Friday but luckily Atkinson County prevailed anyway. The Rebels had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 6-5. The Rebels haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Gevin Smith and Keegan Mancil did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Mancil went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave Mancil a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Garrett Burch, who earned one run and three stolen bases.

Atkinson County pushed their record up to 15-14 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Echols County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-20.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Atkinson County beat the Wildcats by a score of 8-0 later that day.
