Basketball Recap: Hueneme Comes Up Short

Hueneme was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 23rd straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Fillmore Flashes 61-12. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 28-8 back in December of 2024.

Yaneli Landin went supernova for Fillmore, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Those 18 points gave Landin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hermelinda Ocegueda, who posted six points along with eight boards and six steals.

Hueneme's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Fillmore, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-15.

Hueneme will square off against Malibu at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Malibu's defense has only allowed 22.2 points per game this season, so Hueneme's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Fillmore, they will take on St. Bonaventure at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in St. Bonaventure's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches.
