Softball Game Preview: Millard South Patriots vs. Omaha Westside Warriors

The Millard South Patriots will face off against the Omaha Westside Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Millard South will be strutting in after a win while Omaha Westside will be coming in after a loss.

Millard South will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Marian on Wednesday. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Crusaders. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Makenzi McCoy was incredible, firing off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Cindy Xiong was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Millard South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marian only posted a batting average of .231.

Meanwhile, Omaha Westside faced Millard North in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Warriors lost 23-0 to the Mustangs. The Warriors have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Millard South has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-14 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Omaha Westside, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-6.
