Baseball Recap: Four Straight Road Wins for Slinger

Slinger came out on top against Union Grove on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Owls took their matchup against the Broncos 9-6. This was payback for the Owls, who suffered a 13-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Slinger got a great performance from Grant Klumb as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave Klumb a new career-high.

At the plate, Slinger saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Zimmerman, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Grady Mechenich also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Slinger kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Slinger pushed their record up to 14-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Union Grove, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-11.

Coming up, Slinger will be playing at home against St. Joseph at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Owls' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Union Grove, they are taking a road trip to square off against Marquette University at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
