Football Recap: James Perrone's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southridge over Central

After flying high against Southwest last Friday, Southridge came back down to earth. The Spartans took a 34-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Central Rockets on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Rockets are ranked fourth).

Southridge lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was James Perrone, who rushed for 47 yards and two scores, and also threw for 213 yards and one touchdown. Southridge also got a significant boost from Travis Gamble Jr, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 82 yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Southridge fell to 8-1. As for Central, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1.

Southridge will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Dade at 6:00 p.m. on the 31st. As for Central, they have already played their next matchup, a 39-0 victory against Somerset Academy on the 24th.
