Baseball Game Preview: Avon Orioles vs. Pike Red Devils

The Avon Orioles will challenge the Pike Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Avon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Avon proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past New Palestine 4-3.

Preston Miller looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Avon's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 12-14-1 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Avon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew McIntyre, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Pike had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-5 win over Irvington Preparatory Academy.

Brandon Williams was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Joe Williams was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Avon's victory bumped their record up to 14-15-1. As for Pike, their win bumped their record up to 10-12-1.

Avon got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2021 against Pike by a conclusive 22-4 score. Do the Orioles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
