Carlsbad and San Marcos are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2015, but not for long. The Lancers will venture away from home to square off against the Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Carlsbad took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Mission Hills 58-56.

Meanwhile, San Marcos didn't have too much trouble with Murrieta Mesa on Saturday as they won 68-52. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Knights' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Rams are ranked 323rd).

San Marcos' win came from a few key players Carlsbad will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mike Brown, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 18 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. Those six assists gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nico Mott, who shot 62% from the field en route to 19 points.

Carlsbad's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.4 points over those games. As for San Marcos, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.

Carlsbad strolled past San Marcos when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 69-52. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
