Preview: Duarte Falcons vs. Arroyo Knights
Duarte has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Duarte Falcons and the Arroyo Knights will round out the year against one another at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at. Duarte will be strutting in after a victory while Arroyo will be coming in after a defeat.
Duarte has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 23 points or more this season. They took their contest at home on Monday with ease, bagging a 47-5 victory over Baldwin Park. The win was just what Duarte needed coming off of a 59-26 defeat in their prior matchup.
Duarte found their leader in underclassman Selena Banuelos, who scored 26 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Banuelos has scored at least 25% of Duarte's points. Another player making a difference was Zyanne Diaz, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Arroyo's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 40-23 bruising from Rosemead. Having soared to a lofty 60 points in the game before, Arroyo couldn't push the score so high this time.
Duarte's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Arroyo, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
Duarte came up short against Arroyo when the teams last played back in December of 2021, falling 35-26. Can Duarte avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
