Basketball Recap: Palm Springs Takes a Loss

Palm Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 32-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Xavier Prep Saints. The Indians lost against the Saints in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-19 score last time.

Despite the loss, Palm Springs still got an impressive performance from Shayla Bates, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards. Bates is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Miley Flores, who posted four points and five assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Xavier Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Grace Thomsen, who scored 13 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Thomsen has scored at least a third of Xavier Prep's points. Arianna Padilla was another key player, putting up nine points.

Palm Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Xavier Prep, their victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-14.

Palm Springs didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 46-20 loss against Palm Desert on the 15th. Xavier Prep has also already played their next game, a 36-29 defeat against La Quinta on the 15th.
