Basketball Recap: Shayla Mckeon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ripon over Escalon

Ripon was the 43-40 winner over Escalon when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Ripon Indians lost to the Escalon Cougars at home by a 57-41 margin on Tuesday.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shayla Mckeon, who posted eight points and 17 rebounds. Those 17 boards gave Mckeon a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anandjap Dhami, who scored eight points and five rebounds.

Escalon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Arianna Velasco, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Velasco is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last six games she's played. Madi Babasa was another key player, going 5-for-12 to rack up 16 points and three steals.

Ripon's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 17-10. As for Escalon, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-10.

Looking ahead, Ripon will head out to challenge Hilmar at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ripon is facing Hilmar at the right time seeing as Hilmar is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Escalon, they will take on Orestimba at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Escalon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.6 points per game this season.
