Baseball Recap: Briarcliff Triumphs

Briarcliff extended their postseason success on Friday against Pawling. They skirted past the Tigers 14-13. The victory continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won five in a row.

Chase Thompson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Xander D'onofrio was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-5. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Amador, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Briarcliff kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

Briarcliff's record now sits at 15-6-1. As for Pawling, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-8.

Looking ahead, Briarcliff will venture away from home to take on Putnam Valley at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. Pawling does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
