Softball Recap: Thornton's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Thornton dropped down to 20-3-1 on Friday, ending the team's nine-game streak of wins. They lost 15-3 to the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks. The contest marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Elenna Gray made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilyana Martinez, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Cheyenne Mountain, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games.

On Cheyenne Mountain's side, Addison Gutschick spent all four innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Corinne Harlow, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. Katelyn Scism also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Thornton wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 9-8 loss against Northridge on the 17th. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-7 defeat against Pueblo County on the 17th.
