Basketball Recap: Poly Piles Up the Points Against Valley Oaks CES

A well-balanced attack led Poly over Valley Oaks CES in every quarter on their way to victory on Monday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Poly Parrots blew the Valley Oaks CES Vanguards out of the water with a 76-4 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-4.

Poly's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Xochilt Diaz, who dropped a triple-double on 19 points, 12 assists, and ten steals. The dominant performance gave Diaz a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Viridiana Gutierrez, who went 11 of 18 en route to 22 points along with five assists and four steals.

The win made it two in a row for Poly and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Valley Oaks CES, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Poly will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Calabasas at 4:30 p.m. on December 30th. Valley Oaks CES will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against Lakeview Charter at 2:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
