Preview: Monticello vs. Elk River
If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Elk River. They will look to defend their home turf on Friday against Monticello at 7:00 PM. Elk River will be looking to build upon the 28-12 win they picked up against Monticello the last time they played.
Elk River had to travel to play their first game of the season, and the final result was worth the trip. They enjoyed a cozy 40-20 win over Moorhead. No one had a better game by the numbers than senior Adam Nelson, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Monticello couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They had victory within their grasp but couldn't quite capture it last Thursday as the team lost 21-22 to Hutchinson.
Elk River's victory lifted them to 1-0 while Monticello's loss dropped them down to 0-1. We'll find out if Elk River can add another positive mark to their record or if Monticello can shake off the loss and take the spring out of Elk River's step.
