Football Game Preview: Commerce Tigers vs. Malakoff Tigers

Commerce will take on Malakoff at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Malakoff will be up against a hot Commerce squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Tigers claimed a resounding 51-13 victory over Winnsboro. That 38 point margin sets a new team best for the Tigers this season.

Commerce's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aidan Brown led the charge by rushing for 100 yards and a pair of scores, while also throwing for 163 yards and one touchdown. Brown is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season. Malik Garcia was Brown's top target, picking up 89 receiving yards and one TD, while also punching in one score on the ground.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Commerce was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 229 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 211 rushing yards in nine consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Commerce didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Brandon Anderson Jr and Brown. Brown got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Malakoff, who bounced back after a loss on the road on September 12th. They came out on top against Grandview by a score of 31-21 last Friday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Zebras recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Commerce's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Malakoff, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Commerce was taken down by Malakoff 53-6 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Thankfully for Commerce, Mike Jones (who threw for 275 yards and five touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also punched in one TD on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
