Softball Recap: Washington-Wilkes Takes a Loss

After soaring to 16 runs the game before, Washington-Wilkes was a bit more limited in their matchup on Saturday. They fell 5-2 to Commerce. Washington-Wilkes was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Commerce apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2023.

Kennedy Danner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Annabel Cox was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Washington-Wilkes' loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Commerce, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-13.

Coincidentally, Washington-Wilkes and Commerce will both be playing East Hall the next time they take the field. Washington-Wilkes will head out to face East Hall at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Commerce will play them later in the day, at 2:00 p.m.
