Soccer Recap: Sierra Triumphs

After losing to Manteca the last time they met, Sierra decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Sierra Timberwolves had just enough and edged the Manteca Buffaloes out 2-1 on Wednesday. Given the Timberwolves' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Buffaloes are ranked 481st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hailey Cruz was the driving force of Sierra's attack as she scored both of Sierra's goals, bringing her season total up to 15 goals.

Sierra's victory bumped their record up to 10-2-2. As for Manteca, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-4-2.

Sierra will head out to face off against Central Catholic at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Central Catholic's last six games have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Manteca will take on Gregori in a holiday battle at at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Gregori is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.3 goals per game this season.
