Baseball Recap: Southwood Takes a Loss

Southwood had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 1-12 to make it five. They came up short against the Northfield Norsemen, falling 11-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 6-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Northfield, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-12. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.

For Northfield's part, Caleb Dubois was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Dubois also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Northfield is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-10 otherwise. Dubois was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Ty Leming was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Northfield is undefeated when Leming posts two or more runs, but 4-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Breckin Sanders, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double.

Southwood wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 17-2 loss against Huntington North on the 15th. As for Northfield, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-7 defeat against Frankton on the 15th.
