Basketball Game Preview: Acalanes Dons vs. Mt. Diablo Red Devils

The Acalanes Dons will square off against the Mt. Diablo Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Acalanes' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Last Friday, Acalanes took their contest with ease, bagging a 77-31 victory over Campolindo. The Dons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matches by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Mt. Diablo entered their tilt with College Park on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Falcons 51-29. Given the Red Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while the Falcons are ranked 789th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mt. Diablo's win came from a few key players Acalanes will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Stephanie Zuniga, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Dance, who went 7 for 15 on her way to 18 points and three steals.

Mt. Diablo's win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Acalanes, their victory was their 23rd straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-1.

Everything came up roses for Acalanes against Mt. Diablo in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 64-32 win. Will Acalanes repeat their success, or does Mt. Diablo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
