Basketball Game Preview: Franklin Regional Panthers vs. Greensburg Salem Golden Lions

The Franklin Regional Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Greensburg Salem took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Franklin Regional, who comes in off a win.

Last Thursday, Franklin Regional didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Fox Chapel, but they still walked away with a 40-36 win.

Meanwhile, Greensburg Salem opened the new year with a less-than-successful 50-42 loss to Indiana. While losing is never fun, the Golden Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Little Indians are ranked 30th).

Franklin Regional will need focus on slowing down Mya Heasley, one of several Greensburg Salem players who made an impact when they last played. She went 8 for 16 on her way to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blessing Gantt, who posted six points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Greensburg Salem smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Franklin Regional now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Greensburg Salem, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

Franklin Regional took their victory against Greensburg Salem in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 54-29. Will Franklin Regional repeat their success, or does Greensburg Salem have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
