Football Recap: Caiden Fortney and AJ Cockrell Pace Piedra Vista Defense

Piedra Vista's last matchup with Rio Rancho could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Thursday. The Panthers lost 34-13 to the Rams. The Panthers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Although Piedra Vista took the loss, they still got scores from Ethan Duckett and Amasi Griego.

Piedra Vista didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Caiden Fortney and AJ Cockrell. Fortney also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rio Rancho to victory, but perhaps none more so than Micah Takahashi, who rushed for 72 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 289 yards and two TDs while completing 78.3% of his passes. The Rams' leading receiver Parker Miller was Takahashi's top target yet again, picking up 173 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Piedra Vista now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Rio Rancho, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-3.

Piedra Vista has already played their next game, a 54-0 loss against Cleveland on the 17th. As for Rio Rancho, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 28-27 victory against Volcano Vista on the 17th.
