Basketball Game Preview: Woodside Wildcats vs. Pioneer Mustangs

The Woodside Wildcats will take on the Pioneer Mustangs in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Last Saturday, Woodside came up short against Leigh and fell 58-49. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wildcats came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while the Longhorns are ranked 845th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pioneer). They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Aragon 67-31. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 36 points or more this season.

Woodside has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. As for Pioneer, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Everything came up roses for Woodside against Pioneer in their previous meeting back in February of 2020, as the team secured a 60-29 victory. In that contest, Woodside amassed a halftime lead of 34-13, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
