Softball Recap: Union Grove Drops Season-High Score on Luella

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Union Grove). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Luella Lions a 21-0 shutout on Monday. The Wolverines have beaten the Lions the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Lions has come to flipping the script.

Alisha Cattuzzo looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jada Jackson was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Jordan, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Union Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. The last time their OBP was this high was back in August.

Union Grove's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Luella, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.

Looking ahead, Union Grove will challenge Eagle's Landing at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Luella, they will square off against Stephenson at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.89 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
