Softball Recap: Benson Gets the Win

Benson took a 17-run loss the last time they faced off against Burke, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bunnies came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs on Tuesday, sneaking past 8-7. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bunnies as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Brooke Lynn Kaiser Bates was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in August. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daionna Marion Jones, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Jhelen Suarez Ramirez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Benson's win bumped their record up to 8-17. As for Burke, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benson will head out to challenge Westview on Thursday. The Wolverines' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Bunnies' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Burke, they are taking a road trip to face off against Bryan at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
