Basketball Game Preview: La Jolla Vikings vs. El Camino Wildcats

The La Jolla Vikings will face off against the El Camino Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. La Jolla is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

Last Tuesday, La Jolla strolled past Hoover with points to spare, taking the game 53-36. The Vikings pushed the score to 45-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cardinals cut but never quite recovered from.

La Jolla got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Reagan Bennett out in front who went 6-for-13 en route to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. Those six assists gave Bennett a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elena Farrar, who went 7-for-9 on her way to 14 points along with seven boards and three steals.

La Jolla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, El Camino came up short against San Dieguito Academy on Friday and fell 44-34. The Wildcats have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

El Camino's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for La Jolla, their victory bumped their record up to 19-9.

La Jolla was able to grind out a solid win over El Camino when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 34-24. Will La Jolla repeat their success, or does El Camino have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
