Incarnate Word Academy extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 11-12. They lost 11-3 to the Notre Dame Bulldogs. The Red Knights were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.
Layla Portis was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Alexis Clayborne made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Lauryn Walker, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for Notre Dame, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-7-1. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like Incarnate Word Academy, Notre Dame also got a great game from a two-way player: Kynna Johnson. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Johnson was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lauren Estes, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Kaydin King was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Notre Dame beat Incarnate Word Academy by a score of 11-1 later that day.
