Basketball Recap: Franklin Takes a Loss

Franklin and Blackhawk squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Franklin had to settle for second. They were beaten by the Blackhawk Cougars 58-16. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Cougars are ranked 31st).

Despite the loss, Franklin still got an impressive performance from Katie Boal, who posted six points along with eight rebounds and six blocks. Boal has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 21 times she's played.

Aubree Hupp continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Blackhawk, almost dropping a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Hupp has scored at least a third of Blackhawk's points. Another player making a difference was Alivia Rabick, who earned six points in addition to seven boards and seven steals.

Franklin's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Blackhawk, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season.

Franklin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Blackhawk, they are taking a road trip to take on Clearfield at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Clearfield is on a nine-game streak of home wins, Blackhawk an eight-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
