Recap: Poway Titans vs. Del Norte Nighthawks
The Poway Titans entered their tilt with the Del Norte Nighthawks with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Poway sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-40 victory over Del Norte on Friday. For Poway, this counts as revenge for the 44-38 loss Del Norte walked away with the last time they faced one another on January 10th.
Katelyn Johnson was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points. Another player making a difference was Mya McGowan, who scored eight points.
When it comes to explaining why Del Norte lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bailey Barnhard. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 45% of Del Norte's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiana Cadigan, who scored ten points.
Poway has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Del Norte, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Poway will challenge Westview at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Westview is ranked 97th, while Poway is ranked 93rd). Del Norte on the road again on Wednesday and play against San Marcos at 5:30 p.m. on January 31st. San Marcos is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home.
