Basketball Recap: Dunsmuir Comes Up Short

Dunsmuir played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Hayfork Timberjacks 60-25. The Tigers have struggled against the Timberjacks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Dunsmuir still got an impressive performance from Cyla Clemens, who posted 16 points. That was a full 64% of Dunsmuir's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hayfork to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaelynn Bayley, who had 22 points and three steals. Bayley's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Riley Bayley, who put up 12 points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds.

Dunsmuir's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Hayfork, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Dunsmuir Tigers challenge the Big Valley Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Dunsmuir is facing Big Valley at the right time seeing as Big Valley is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Hayfork, they will challenge Surprise Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
