Basketball Recap: Irvington Comes Up Short

Irvington fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Newark Memorial on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 31-30 to the Newark Memorial Cougars. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 38-15.

Angelina Baca was the offensive standout of the contest as she posted 25 points. Her evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Irvington has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season. As for Newark Memorial, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-14 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Irvington will head out to challenge James Logan at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Irvington is facing James Logan at the right time seeing as James Logan is stuck on a four-game losing streak. Newark Memorial has already played their next matchup (against Kennedy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
