Basketball Recap: Ponderosa Wins Going Away Against Rio Americano

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Christian Brothers, Ponderosa was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Rio Americano Raiders as the Ponderosa Bruins made off with a 50-27 victory. The Bruins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 games by 20 points or more this season.

Ponderosa had a senior duo take command as Brooklynn Nordquist posted 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals and Casey Dreiling scored 17 points along with seven boards and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Nordquist a new career-high in blocks (three). Abigail Reding was another key player, putting up six points and four steals.

Ponderosa's win bumped their record up to 23-3. As for Rio Americano, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ponderosa will head out to square off against Vista del Lago at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ponderosa is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.2 points per game this season. As for Rio Americano, they will venture away from home to face off against Inderkum at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Inderkum has three straight victories, Rio Americano has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
