Basketball Recap: University Takes a Loss

University played a tough game on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 55-26 defeat at the hands of the Marina Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 894th, while the Vikings are ranked 263rd).

Despite the loss, University still got an impressive performance from Julia Holmes, who posted five points along with ten boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Holmes a new career-high in steals.

Rylee Bradley continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Marina, going 9 for 17 en route to 25 points and three steals. Bradley's evening made it 15 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Haley Nguyen, who put up seven points and five steals.

University has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Marina, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-10.

University will challenge Laguna Beach at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Laguna Beach will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something University surely won't give up without a fight. Marina has already played their next match, a 53-41 win against Corona del Mar on the 21st.
