Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Saniah Wiley and Brooklin Kimmons Lead Sheldon to Victory

After losing to Cosumnes Oaks the last time they met, Sheldon decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Sheldon Huskies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-49 victory over the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Huskies have posted against the Wolfpack since April 29, 2021.

Leading Sheldon to victory were Brooklin Kimmons and Saniah Wiley. Kimmons went 9 for 20 on her way to 19 points and six rebounds, while Wiley posted 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists. With that strong performance, Wiley is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayloni Knowlton, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 boards.

Cosumnes Oaks' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Caitlin Subejano, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards, and Sophia Mendenhall, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 15 points and seven boards. Subejano's evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Sydney Pelote was another key player, putting up five points and five rebounds.

Sheldon moved to 11-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Cosumnes Oaks, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
