Preview: Mars Fightin' Planets vs. New Castle Hurricanes
The Mars Fightin' Planets will head out on the road to challenge the New Castle Hurricanes at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Thursday, Mars lost to North Hills at home by a decisive 55-38 margin.
Despite their defeat, Mars saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Alexis Cashdollar, who scored eight points along with three steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Cecilia Christy, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, New Castle's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 49-16 defeat at the hands of North Hills. While losing is never fun, New Castle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 629th, while North Hills is ranked 182nd).
Mars' loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for New Castle, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-9.
Mars strolled past New Castle when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 57-39. Does Mars have another victory up their sleeve, or will New Castle turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
