Basketball Preview: West Campus Warriors vs. Foothill Mustangs
West Campus is 4-0 against the Mustangs since March of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The West Campus Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Foothill Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. West Campus will be looking to keep their 13-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
In what's become a running theme this season, West Campus gave their fans yet another huge win on Wednesday. They breezed by Johnson at home to the tune of 63-9. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-2.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Campus to victory, but perhaps none more so than Esabel Otsuji, who scored 16 points along with seven steals. Otsuji is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last ten games she's played. Leilani Edinburgh was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Foothill was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 35-31 to the Nighthawks.
Foothill's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zeniah Thompson, who scored 15 points, and Joyce Runner who scored 11 points. That was a full 48.4% of Foothill's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
West Campus has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Foothill, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.
Everything came up roses for West Campus against the Mustangs when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 73-12 victory. With West Campus ahead 43-9 at the half, the match was all but over already.
